Kieran Clute

FORESTRY DIRECTOR

Growing up in the Poudre Canyon, Kieran developed a deep-rooted love and appreciation for our local watersheds. His interest in restoring wetland ecosystems led to a B.S. Degree in Ecology from Prescott College. Since 2016, Kieran has worked with AloTerra, gaining experience in a wide range of ecological restoration projects across the Front Range and Wyoming. His expertise and passion lies in Forestry and Low-tech Process Based Restoration implements in post-burn watersheds. Utilizing his years of experience as a professional arborist, Kieran has acted as Foreman and Project Supervisor on multiple Forestry projects, dedicating himself to training his peers on chainsaw use and safety practices. During the 2023 field season, he oversaw the completion of over 150 LTPBR structures including Log Structures, PALS, and BDAS, working alongside CPRW, Big Thompson Watershed Coalition, and project engineers from Ayres at various sites in the Cameron Peak burn area. These projects equipped him with an informed understanding of varying construction methods and processes that consider the unique constraints of hydrology, bank features, and material availability to ensure the efficient and safe installation of structures that successfully meet project goals.

In addition to his years of experience as an Ecologist and Arborist, Kieran has spent over 300 days in the backcountry, guiding educational wilderness excursions across the West. With participants ranging from adolescents to adults, he prioritizes fostering a safe and inclusive environment that emphasizes communication and opportunities for learning and personal growth. This passion for wilderness leadership and outdoor education informs his methods and goals as Lead Sawyer, Project Supervisor and Volunteer Event Coordinator for AloTerra.
