2014 Project Recap: & 2015 Highlights

AloTerra is grateful to all of our clients this year who supported restoration design and implementation as an important part of land management:

AloTerra is nearing final production of Living Streambanks: A Manual of Bioengineering Treatments for Colorado Streams." Thanks to Rocky Mountain Flycasters and the Colorado Water Cosnervation Board for their commitment to and support of this project. And a big thank you to the dozens of authors who contributed content to this manual. We anticipate final production in March, 2016.

JW Associates and Coalition for the Poudre River Watershed: AloTerra has joined JW Associates to provide post-fire watershed monitoring and analysis, stakeholder engagement and restoration design for unmet needs in the Cache La Poudre River Watershed. AloTerra is also working with JW and CPRW to develop a watershed resiliency master plan for the Poudre watershed above the canyon mouth.

Colorado Trout Unlimited , USFWS, and CPW: These clients are supporting fish passage and sediment solutions for ditch diversions on the lower Big Thompson River, as well as conceptual restoration design plans on 5 of the top 10 priority reaches identified in the Big Thompson River Restoration Master Plan. AloTerra is honored to be working with Otak and some pioneering land owners and ditch companies to develop 30% designs for fish passage and ehanced river function.

Rocky Mountain Flycasters: AloTerra and Golder Associates are working to plan and implement RMF's multi-basin river restoration grant with the Colorado Water Conservation Board. This project focuses on three important post-flood programs in Larimer and Boulder County: Riparian vegetation development program; Biotechnical slope protection design manual; and Restoration skills training program for conservation corps and volunteer groups.

Coalition for the Poudre River Watershed: AloTerra and Natural Resource Services Inc completed final designs and is nearing final construction for full flooplain restoration of Skin Gulch, a tributary to the Poudre River Watershed. Significantly impacted by debris flows following the 2012 High Park Fire, and again after the 2013 flood event, Skin Gulch is off to a great path to recovery after just one season of treatments. Enhanced capacity, connectivity to the floodplain, and plant community diversity are just a few of the outcomes to date. Thanks to Larimer County Conservation Corps and Wildlands Restoration Volunteers for their great work to help implement treatments.

Water Valley Land Company: AloTerra is proud to provide final design services for the South Hill Wetland Mitigation Project, part of a farm-to table development south of Windsor in the Poudre River Watershed.

Wildlands Restoration Volunteers: AloTerra was thankful to provide an alpine rare plant survey at Boreas Pass for Wildlands Restoration Volunteers.

White River National Forest: Working with John Proctor (Botanist, WRNF) is a treat in and of itself. This year, AloTerra staff provided WRNF with an intensive (10,000+ acres) survey of over 50 ponds and creek crossings in the remote Morapos Creek Grazing Allotment on the western edge of the Flat Tops Wilderness.

JW Associates and City of Greeley: Working with this great team, AloTerra provided design services for the prioritization of wood shred mulch treatments in the High Park Fire Burn area, and developed gulley stabilization treatments in Unnamed 3, a high priority subwatershed above the Monroe Tunnel on the Cache La Poudre River.

BLM, Canyon City: AloTerra completed a conceptual design for 20 acres of reclaimed gravel pits in the Great Blue Heron Reservoir area along the Arksansa River floodplain.

ESCO Associates: Working aside ESCO staff and Cedar Creek Associates staff to conduct Phase III bond release vegetation monitoring for a coal mine in NE Colorado was equivalent to botany heaven!
